Have you written a children’s book?
Are you still working on one?
Are you wondering how to know if it’s good
—or how to make it good?

Every book benefits from another set of eyes.

With your Children’s Book Assessment, one of our editors will evaluate your manuscript for quality and readiness for publishing. This is also known as an Editorial Assessment or Editorial Review.

For a picture book, this may be the entire book to a maximum of 1500 words. For a chapter book, this will be one or two chapters to a maximum of 1500 words.

Note that a Children’s Book Assessment is not a complete edit.

Your Children’s Book Assessment will do three important things for you:

    1. Provide you with direction for doing your own pre-editing and story development on your book.
    2. Give you a taste of what it could be like to work with an editor.
    3. Offer you insight into what to look for in an editor and/or a publisher.

Your assessment editor will look for basic copyediting (like spelling, grammar, punctuation), and big picture development (like organization and themes). In fiction, we might comment on characters and plot. The editor will send you one or two pages of notes with suggestions plus 2-5 pages of sample copyediting.

p.s. If you decide to work with us after your Book Assessment, we’ll count your Assessment fee as credit towards your publishing package. Ask us for a free phone consultation.
